We are machine learning pioneers, leading photonics researchers, and semiconductor industry veterans. Our team has >210 years of industry experience and includes 12 PhDs. We have 10 MIT degrees and also hail from schools including Columbia, Georgia Tech, Peking University, and UC Berkeley. An inclusive group, we are 50% US immigrants. Select profiles:

Dr. Yichen Shen: Co-Founder, CEO   Yichen Shen is a co-founder and CEO of Lightelligence. He received his PhD degree in Physics from MIT in 2016, where his research focused on nanophotonics and artificial intelligence. Through his PhD, Yichen has published more than 25 peer-reviewed journal papers and has filed 10 US patents, including first authored papers in  Science ,  Nature Photonics , and  ICML  (the top machine learning conference). In 2017, Yichen received Forbes 30 under 30 Global and MIT Technology Review 35 Innovators under 35 (TR35) China.

Dr. Yichen Shen: Co-Founder, CEO

Yichen Shen is a co-founder and CEO of Lightelligence. He received his PhD degree in Physics from MIT in 2016, where his research focused on nanophotonics and artificial intelligence. Through his PhD, Yichen has published more than 25 peer-reviewed journal papers and has filed 10 US patents, including first authored papers in Science, Nature Photonics, and ICML (the top machine learning conference). In 2017, Yichen received Forbes 30 under 30 Global and MIT Technology Review 35 Innovators under 35 (TR35) China.

Dr. Marin Soljacic: Co-Founder, Board Member   Marin is a professor of Physics at MIT and a board member of Lightelligence. Marin earned BS degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering from MIT and a PhD in Physics from Princeton. Marin is also a co-founder of WiTricity Corporation and Lux Labs. In 2008, Marin was named a MacArthur Fellow.

Dr. Marin Soljacic: Co-Founder, Board Member

Marin is a professor of Physics at MIT and a board member of Lightelligence. Marin earned BS degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering from MIT and a PhD in Physics from Princeton. Marin is also a co-founder of WiTricity Corporation and Lux Labs. In 2008, Marin was named a MacArthur Fellow.

Maurice Steinman: VP of Engineering   Mo has enjoyed a career in the tech industry lasting more than three decades, working for such companies as Digital, Compaq, HP, Intel and most recently AMD, where he held the title of Sr. Fellow. A veteran of many successful tapeouts and product introductions, Mo has expertise in System on Chip (SoC) architecture, SoC interconnect, memory subsystems, and power management. Mo graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) with a BS in Computer & Systems Engineering and holds over 40 computer architecture patents.

Boaz Efroni Rotman: VP of Marketing & Business Development   Boaz Efroni Rotman is the VP of Marketing & Business Development at Lightelligence. Boaz has over 23 years of global technology experience in business development, product management, strategic marketing, and sales. Boaz has launched over 20 semiconductor SoCs and products into Consumer, IoT, Cellular, Mobile, Media, Telecom, and Automotive markets. Boaz earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from the Ben-Gurion University in Israel, and an MBA ( summa cum laude ) from Netanya Academic College in Israel.

Boaz has over 23 years of global technology experience in business development, product management, strategic marketing, and sales. Boaz has launched over 20 semiconductor SoCs and products into Consumer, IoT, Cellular, Mobile, Media, Telecom, and Automotive markets. Boaz earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from the Ben-Gurion University in Israel, and an MBA (summa cum laude) from Netanya Academic College in Israel.

Dr. Huaiyu Meng: Co-Founder, VP of Photonics   Huaiyu Meng is a co-founder and VP of Photonics at Lightelligence. He received his PhD degree in Electric Engineering from MIT, where his research focused on integrated photonics in CMOS platform for telecom, datacom, and bio-sensing applications. Huaiyu got his Bachelor’s degree from Nanyang Technological University in Electric Engineering with first class honor.

Spencer Powers: Co-Founder, VP of Operations   Spencer first teamed up with Yichen in a technology innovation class at MIT and now leads ops, finance, and team at Lightelligence. Spencer received an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management and a BA in Economics from Boston College. Spencer is also a co-founder and board member of Lux Labs and ArtLifting.

Dr. Gilbert Hendry   Gilbert leads the Software and Algorithms team at Lightelligence. He received a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, focusing on simulation and design of silicon photonic networks. More recently, Gilbert worked at Google and Microsoft on software projects from OS deployment to automated machine learning. Gilbert’s expertise and interests are in computer architecture, distributed systems, robust software, and machine learning and its applications.

Li Jing: Co-Founder, Chief Algorithm Architect   Li is a co-founder and Chief Algorithm Architect at Lightelligence. He is currently a Physics PhD at MIT. Li earned a BS in Physics and BA in Economics from Peking University. He has published approximately 15 research papers in top machine learning conferences and scientific journals. He has collaborated with two of the fathers of machine learning, Yann LeCun and Yoshua Bengio. Li has also won the International Physics Olympiad gold medal.

Dr. John Joannopolulos: Co-Founder, Advisor   John is a professor of Physics at MIT and advisor to Lightellgience.
